Gould to Israeli Olympians: Munich has not been forgotten

The British ambassador to Israel has promised Israeli athletes "a proper British send off" before the London Olympics this summer.

Matthew Gould, speaking to Israel's Olympic hopefuls at the Dead Sea on Wednesday, said he was looking ahead to "the start of the greatest show on Earth".

London Olympics put the spotlight on local rabbis

Local rabbis will feature prominently within the contingent of 2012 Olympic Jewish chaplains with four rabbis from Redbridge working with Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

The quartet from Redbridge and Essex include official Olympic chaplains, Reverend Gary Newman, from Newbury Park United Synagogue; Rabbi Richard Jacobi, from Woodford Liberal Synagogue; and Rabbi Moshe Muller from Chabad.

Zionist Federation red-faced after Olympics gaffe

The Zionist Federation has hastily withdrawn Olympic tickets it had offered to sell as a fundraising project, after it learned that such a venture was illegal.

Last week the ZF advertised a deal, offering London 2012 tickets to two events, judo and taekwondo, both events in which Israel has a strong chance of doing well. The ZF offered a free Israeli flag with tickets sold.

Nine members of the 1972 Israeli Olympic team were snatched from their apartment in the Olympic village and murdered by the terrorist group Black September.

Eight gunmen struck as the athletes slept. Others were spared when a colleague- Yossef Gutfreund heard a disturbance, raised the alarm.

Ambassador shoots hoops with Israeli Paralympians

Olympics countdown: UK envoy tells Knesset door is open

With one year to go before the London 2012 Olympics, British ambassador to Israel Matthew Gould has extended an open invitation to Britain to Israeli athletes, students, sports fans and business people, calling the UK "a natural partner for Israel".

During a speech at the Knesset on Wednesday, Mr Gould said that Israelis would be welcome in the UK, both for the Olympic Games and after.

The message was recorded earlier this month at a special function in London to launch the Forum of International Friends of the Israel Olympic Committee, a body to help raise funds overseas for Israeli athletes.
