What Abbas should have read
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had Israeli blood boiling with his comments at an Arab conference in Jerusalem this week, among other things appearing to cast doubt on the site of the Jewish Temple.
But such historical revisionism is a new departure. In 1925, the Supreme Muslim Council in Jerusalem, which supervised the Temple Mount, published a pamphlet which stated: "Its identity with the site of Solomon's Temple is beyond dispute."
I was made aware of the existence of the pamphlet by Aumie and Michael Shapiro of the Springboard Trust, who intend to mention it in a short film they are making about the Jewish link with Jerusalem.
They were helped to track down a copy by a perhaps unlikely source - the East London Mosque.
