Whether it's an elderly man bending down to pick something up or a teenager eating chips in a doorway, Denise Nemtzov has probably painted it.

The London-based artist is known for the unique way she captures brief moments. She will be exhibiting her work - a selection of oil paintings and pastels - at the Timothy Graham Gallery in Twickenham from next week. Miss Nemtzov tells People: "The things that I like to paint are the things that you see briefly and then they are gone. I do lots of sketches.

University graduate Josh Magidson has come up with an online business to cater for all your takeaway needs. The website, eatstudent.co.uk, which he runs with fellow graduate Edward Green, enables students to search for and order from their preferred local takeaways.

Established in 2007, the company has recently been bought by Just-Eat.co.uk, the market leader in online takeaway ordering. eatstudent covers eight university towns but a £500,000 investment from Just-Eat will help the duo to roll out the business nationwide.

When brothers Joshua and Robert Sands made a short comedy film about synagogue etiquette, neither anticipated the attention it would attract.

The three-minute creation, titled How to Conduct Oneself in the Synagogue, is a take on the 1950s-style public information films. It features spoof characters Mr Greenbaum and Mr Goldstein giving advice on how to behave in synagogue be it finding one's place in the service, avoiding broiges and the danger of throwing sweets during a barmitzvah.

Award-winning television director Michael Samuels has had a busy couple of years.

His most recent project, which he wrote and directed, is Channel 4's Any Human Heart. The series, which started last month, airs on Sundays and runs until December 12.

Starring Jim Broadbent, Matthew Macfadyen and Sam Claflin, it is a moving adaptation by William Boyd of his own best-selling novel, exploring one man's tumultuous journey through the 20th century.

Artist Jon Burgerman has come up with a new, and somewhat unusual, range of Chanucah cards.

One of them features a cowgirl on a dreidel with the caption: "Yee-hanukkah!" And there are several other quirky designs.

Mr Burgerman, 31, from Nottingham, tells People: "They are meant to be silly and fun - an alternative to the traditional, festive card. No-one else will have my designs. They are unique and I hope people can appreciate the fun element.

"The designs are anything but boring."

He was inspired to create the range by his mother Linda Burgerman, who lives in Birmingham.

If you fancy a change from donuts this Chanucah, Harriet Hastings has the perfect treat.

Her company, Biscuiteers, have come up with a new line of Chanucah-themed biccies.

Ms Hastings, 45, founded the company three years ago. She tells People: "This is the first time we have done a Chanucah range. It seemed like a good fit for us. Chanucah is about exchanging gifts and that fits in well with what Biscuiteers is all about. "We would love to do more Jewish ranges. This is a first step for us so we will see how well they are received."

Talk about persistence. Budding author Barbara Tabor has spent 12 years trying to get her debut book published. She completed the novel, Force of Circumstances, in 1998 only to be faced with hundreds of rejection letters. Until now.

Mrs Tabor, 77, tells People: "The letter from Lulu Publishers came completely out of the blue. They said they read it and liked it. It was fantastic. I never thought it would happen and I didn't want to leave the world without it being published."

Artist Jackie Kushner will be showing off her work at an exhibition in north London next week.

Ms Kushner's pieces - a mix of drawings, paintings and prints - are made up of black and white marks using pen and ink.

The former JFS art teacher tells People: "I get my inspiration from nature - from looking at things and observing. My pieces are my response to nature. They explore the boundaries between abstraction and realism. I deconstruct things."

Ms Kushner has been an artist for 40 years. She has exhibited in the UK and abroad, and also paints in water colours and oils.
