Rampant Cats in 7-heaven
Hendon United Sports Club C |
1 - 7 | Catford and Bromley Maccabi |
| Ashley Stokes Ashley Stokes |
Catford found their shooting boots with a terrific performance enabling a 7-1 demolition of Hendon C.
Ashley Stokes, Dave Powell (2), Joel Berwitz, James Kleinman, Yonni Bord, and Rafi Marom did the business in front of goal.
The Cats got a fortunate start today when Stokes free-kick from the right was misjudged by the Hendon keeper and he could only parry into the net.
From then on the Cats get forward in numbers and scored four further spectacular goals despite playing into a fairly strong wind and going up the slope.
The Cats were 5-0 up at half time and it seemed that every shot we had found the net. Despite that our passing wasn't as sharp as it should have been and Hendon had a little more possession than we would have liked in midfield. However a strong defensive display meant they only had one or two ventures towards our penalty area to show for their efforts.
Into the second half we could (and probably should) have immediately scored one or two more, but they couldn't take our chances and allowed Hendon to scramble in a close range goal following some good possession in our half.
From then on, however it was back to the Cats to press forward, with Adam Lister coming on to play a superb through ball to Powell to finish 1-on-1, before Marom crashed home a header from an Ashley Stokes corner.
Catford only allowed Hendon a couple of further half-chances and had it not been for some (at times very) wayward attempts when in very good scoring positions, they could well have walked away with a 10 goal haul today.
Cats joint-manager Adam Lewis told JC Sport: "This was the kind of gritty, determined, though also confident passing display which we have been threatening to put in for some time.
"We were gutted to let ourselves be embarrassed by a very regular side in our last game so we took that as motivation to go out and give it our all for the rest of the season. Next week can't come soon enough."
