There was a big shock at Clowes where Brixton won a five-goal thriller against the Lions to record their first success of the season.

Two goals from Alon Hershkorn and one from Rob Blackman did the trick for John Nitka's men.

The Lions goals came through Mike Pearson, who made it three in two games, and the evergreen Tony Gold.

Brixton forged into a 2-0 lead with Blackman (13) and Hershkorn (18) on target, but Lions came storming back with two goals from Mike Pearson (40), who made it three in two games, and the evergreen Tony Gold (44) before half time.

The winner came in the 68th minute with a delightful through ball from George Fierstone to Hershkorn for him to slot the ball home.

Delighted Brixton boss John Nitka reflected on a job well done. "It was an absolutely outstanding performance by the team," he told JC Sport.

"They put us under pressure in the second half, however our defence lead by captain Ed Weisz with the support of Josh Greenham, Jon Weisz and James Lee at the back and Ben Goldberg (sweeping) we held them at bay.

"Outstanding George Fierstone controlled the midfield with support by Alon Hershkorn and Michael Posner. I made a switch at the start of the game by starting my midfield general Rob Blackman up front with Dan Sherman which worked very well.

"Our goalkeeper Jake Doffman once again pulled off two great saves in the second half to keep Lions from taking the lead. We will not get carried away with this win but it will kick start our season.

"There is a long way to go yet. It was great game to watch and credit to both teams."

LML joint-manager Josh Newman told JC Sport: "We were not at our best but full credit must go to a spirited Brixton side, who were excellent.

"We need to work hard to improve individually and collectively. Hopefully we can address this over the coming weeks."

DC Prediction: Brixton 1 Lions 3
