Three cheers for Raiders C
|3 - 1|
|Kane Alexander |
Nick Haringman, Alex Goodman and recent signing Jamie Weinrich were on the mark as Raiders picked up their first three points of the season against a battling Boca.
Kane Alexander was on target for a Boca team who kept things a bit tighter at the back following their 17-1 cup defeat against Hendon A last weekend.
Norstar never looked like losing as they continued their undefeated start to the season.
Despite leaving it late, very late, to secure all three points, another stoic defensive display from the oranges, coupled with two fine late strikes brought home the points.
Norstar looked threatening from the off and a couple of dangerous free-kicks from Oli Nathan saw Norstar players come close to turning one of the deliveries into the net. However, 10 minutes in, Norstar took the lead when another Nathan free kick wasn't dealt with by Boca and Goodman took a touch eight yards out before striking the ball into the back of the net.
Norstar should have pushed on, but they struggled to create enough clear-cut chances, but those that they did create failed to truly test the Boca keeper.
Into the second half and Boca pressed on and worried Norstar, with important defensive challenges and a couple of great saves from Grant Waissel kept the score at 1-0.
Ten minutes from time and Norstar were awarded a penalty which ex-Boca player Jamie Weinrich stepped up to take. The penalty was saved by the keeper, Weinrich's brother-in-law, much to the striker's despair.
As the referee indicated four minutes of stoppage time, Boca levelled when Norstar were unable to deal with a set play and after initially hitting the bar, Kane Alexander tucked the ball home.
That goal spurred on Norstar who regained the lead immediately when a stunning passing move, with real determination, saw Weinrich make up for his penalty miss by beating the keeper from the edge of the box.
2-1 became 3-1 a minute later when a counter-attack from Norstar saw the ball fall to Oli Nathan on the right, his through ball found Haringman on the edge of the box who turned with two defenders to his back before finding the corner of the net.
