Three cheers for Bilbaum
|3 - 1|
|Ben Bell||Oli Joseph|
Ben Bell and Ed Bell were among the scorers as Athletic Bilbaum started the season in style with a 3-1 victory over London Haroldeans.
The first half saw Bilbaum gain the upper hand they went ahead via a Richard Spector own goal after 15 minutes.
As LH rallied, they had a few chances, which were dealt with fairly comfortably by the Bilbaum keeper. However, less than a minute before half time and with the game a more even affair, a defensive error saw Bilbaum extend their lead to two.
Haroldeans made two half-time substitutions who had an immediate impact, and with the visitors dominating the first 15 minutes, they pulled a goal back through a well taken goal by Oli Joseph.
The goal was followed by a goal-line clearance where the ball hit the bar and was scrambled away for a corner. With no goal-line technology at the Hertswood leisure centre, and Haroldeans calls for a goal went unheeded by the ref,who controlled the game well.
Haroldeans had a few more chances, but Bilbaum held on and scored a third, against the run of play, with three minutes to play.
LH boss Jonathan Abrams told JC Sport: "With the game ending 3-1, I felt we at least deserved a point and at 2-1 and with AB on the back foot, it could have gone either way.
"Credit to AB, though, as they battled hard, held on and managed to kill the game off in the dying minutes.
"It's only game one of a long season, so we'll learn from our mistakes and are already focusing in the next game in a few weeks time."
