Wily Wolfson inspires the Cats

By Danny Caro, week beginning 1 January 1970

Manager name: Lester Jacobs
Team: Catford and Bromley Macc.

Eilon Kennet, Dave Lusman and Josh Marks were in the mix this week, but for me, the standout performer came from slightly lower down the ladder.

With Lester Jacobs and captain Adam Luria both away, it was left to Simon Wolfson to lead the team into battle against an in-form SPEC FC team. I had it down as a comfortable away win for the SPEC boys, 3-0 in fact, but the wily Wolfson got his tactics spot on to lead the Cats to a famous 3-2 victory.

A Catford source told JC Sport: "Simon masterminded the whole thing. It was a battling win, which we really needed after not putting in the required performance level for the past few weeks and receiving some real hammerings. Hopefully this will be our turning point as we've already proved we can live with anyone in the division when we put in the effort."

Wolfson came away from the match saying: "If we can carry the attitude we showed into our next few games then Catford are going to start climbing this division to make a late promotion push."
