Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Daniel Taub gives a JDOV talk (the Jewish world's answer to the popular TED talk series), on the ten objects which represent Israel for him. One of these is a model El Al plane and hilarity for the knowing audience ensues.
In one of the conference’s most moving moments so far, Natan Sharansky, Chairman of the Jewish Agency awarded 96 year old Michael Sherbourne with a special plaque for his activism on behalf of Soviet Jews during the 1970s and 1980s.
The Chief Rabbi said: "As Jews we must be committed to every single human being created in the image of God."
He went on to say: "We have to have universalistic ideals, that we are here as a people to be or lagoyim, a light unto the nations and not to simply exist in a self-imposed ghetto away from the other peoples of the world.”
As the last of Limmud's sessions concluded just before 11pm on the event's first main day, the night's festivities, which the conference is renowned for, were just getting under way. Opening up proceedings was the spiritual reggae-infused music of former Shotei Hanavuah singer/songwriter, Roi Levy.
