But Paula Begoun's heavyweight paperback is certainly the book to consult before you go shopping for anything that you might put on your face, from blusher to bronzer, exfoliator to eye-serum.
With 30 years' experience in the cosmetics industry, and 18 best-sellers on the beauty industry behind her, US-based Begoun is known in the States as the Cosmetics Cop, following numerous appearances talking about her subject on Oprah, CNN, The Today Show and hundreds of news and magazine programmes.
In the newly published eighth edition of DGTTCCWM, the Jewish-and-proud-of-it Ms Begoun details the benefits and failings of thousands of skincare and makeup products across 115 brands, revealing formulations and ingredients. She cuts through the marketing spiel, separating fact from fiction, explaining that sometimes a product costing £3 is better than one at £300.
