Rabbi Foulds came to the ministry late in life after a long career in accountancy, having run a practice and spent many years working in accountancy governance bodies at national and international level. His OBE in 1996 recognises services to accountancy. He took early retirement in 2002 to study for the rabbinate at Leo Baeck College and received his semichah in 2007. He and his wife Ruth have four adult children and one grandchild

Welwyn Garden City Synagogue

The minister serving the small Herts congregation was born in America and was six when his family moved to Israel. He returned to the US to attend yeshivot and gained his semichah in New Jersey. He came to England to further his studies and was appointed at Welwyn last year, endearing himself to members by turning up on their doorsteps before Rosh Hashanah to hand over a jar of honey and an apple. Rabbi Gruber — who trained as an army chaplain in Israel during the Lebanon War — is married with three young daughters

Employed by the University Jewish Chaplaincy Board, Canadian-born Rabbi Katchen has been the chaplain in Oxford since last September. He received his semichah last summer in Jerusalem, studying under Rav Danny Landes. Prior to his rabbinical studies, he worked for Hillel in North America and studied at York University in Toronto. His wife, Shira Cantor, is from Philadelphia

The rabbi serving the North Hendon community for six years was educated at Menorah Primary and Hasmo before studying for a computer science degree at Imperial College. Shortly after his finals he married his wife Soro and joined the Yeshivas Ma’alos Hatorah in Jerusalem to study for semicha. His wife, who is from Manchester, is a graduate of the Gateshead Seminary

The rabbi serving Oxford University and the Oxford Jewish community since 2001, his titles include executive director of the city’s Chabad and the student-run Oxford University Chabad Society. Other involvements include founding the David Slager Jewish student centre in the heart of Oxford, the Samson Judaica library and the new David and Lara Slager mikveh on the Oxford Chabad site

As well as her South Hampshire role, Rabbi Amswych is associate minister of Bournemouth Reform Synagogue and community development rabbi for the Reform Movement. Her husband Neil is rabbi of the Bournemouth congregation and they have a Cavalier King Charles spaniel called Parker. She was ordained at Leo Baeck College last July

Rabbi Jacobs has been with the independent Orthodox congregation since its inception seven years ago. He studied in Manchester and America, receiving his semichah from Yeshivah Toras Emes in Monsey, New York, in 2002. His wife Tzirl teaches at the Glasgow Lubavitch cheder and at his shul’s adult-learning classes for women. She is also an artist, specialising in portraits. They have a one-year-old son.
