London diners raise £500K for Kisharon

More than 700 people supported Kisharon’s fundraising dinner at the Hilton Park Lane. Guest speaker Lord Strathclyde, leader of the Conservative Party in the House of Lords, commented that “the Kisharon family of special needs services represents a model of comprehensive care and development”. The event raised £500,000 for Kisharon’s services

Joanna Lumley helps UJIA to rustle up 'a fab' £120k

Actress and campaigner Joanna Lumley was the star attraction at the annual UJIA women’s appeal. Ms Lumley spoke of her admiration for the Jewish community, and praised the work of the UJIA for its projects that help the “Jewish family” to thrive. The 400 guests at the Westfield London Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush raised £120,000 for UJIA’s educational work in the UK and in Israel

London diners raise £200k for Jewish Museum rebuild

August 14, 2009

Mayor of London Boris Johnson was the guest speaker at the Jewish Museum’s annual gala dinner. “It is vital to remember what the Jewish community has done for London and it is also vital to remember the seneseless threats that Jews have faced throughout history,” he told the 200 guests at the Mansion House in the City of London. The event raised £200,000 towards the £10 million rebuild of the museum’s Camden Town premises, due to reopen early next year

A London crowd packs a £50K punch for Jewish Care

The Millennium Hotel in London’s Mayfair was the venue for Jewish Care’s gentleman’s boxing dinner organised by the charity’s Next Generation committee. The 180-strong crowd raised £50,000 for the Jack Gardner House in Golders Green, a residential home for young adults with long-term mental health needs.

Early risers make £105K for World Jewish Relief projects

BBC business editor Robert Peston was the guest speaker at World Jewish Relief’s annual Business Breakfast. In his address to the 235 guests, he gave his analysis of the current economic situation. He also told the audience that the pressures on the global economy meant “it becomes even more necessary for WJR to continue helping those less fortunate”. The event, held at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, raised £105,000 for WJR projects.

Retail queen helps Chai Cancer Care rustle up £60K

Retail guru Mary Portas was the guest speaker at Chai Cancer Care’s first major ladies’ lunch fundraiser. In her address she told the 140 guests about her career in the fashion industry and, referring to her recent BBC series, she said that she wanted to pass on her expertise to the charity-shop sector. The event, held at the Totteridge home of Karen and Andrew Harris, raised £60,000 for Chai’s services.

Scots golfers chip in with £30K for Israeli reservoir

JNF KKL Scotland hosted the annual professionals’ Pro Am golf tournament at Bonnyton Golf Club in Glasgow. The 40 teams, each made up of three amateurs and one professional, raised £30,000. The cash is the final payment required for the completion of the Gazit Reservoir in the Galilee
