London diners rustle up £500k for an Israeli charity

London diners raise £1.4m to support Magen David Adom

The Chief Rabbi was the guest speaker at Magen David Adom UK’s 60th anniversary dinner. Addressing over 300 guests, Lord Sacks said that the Anglo-Jewish community’s support for the Israeli medical emergency charity was “magnificent”. Michael Howard helps to raise over £1 million

Michael Howard was the guest speaker at Nightingale’s biennial dinner. Addressing the 500-strong audience, the former Tory leader spoke about the care given by the home to his late mother Hilda. He praised Nightingale as “a shining beacon in the area of care for the elderly”. The event, held at London’s Guildhall, raised over £1 million for the south London home.

Jewish Blind and Disabled marks its 40th at Number 11

Chancellor’s wife Maggie Darling hosted a reception for over 100 JBD supporters at 11 Downing Street to celebrate the charity’s 40th anniversary. The celebration was also an opportunity to raise awareness of the charity’s services. JBD chairman John Joseph told the gathering that many people “living in poor circumstances don’t know we exist”.

More than 200 people attended the Movement for Reform Judaism’s annual dinner. Guest speaker National Theatre artistic director Nicholas Hytner praised the Reform movement, saying that modernity and interpretation was as relevant in religion as in the performing arts. The event, held at the Royal Institute of British Architects, raised £250,000 for the movement
