London diners celebrate Dame Gail's new role at Jewish Care

Dame Gail Ronson celebrated her appointment as Jewish Care’s deputy president at a reception at the Dorchester Hotel. Surrounded by 100 people, she was presented with a chanuciah by Lord Levy in recognition of her work. She also received a bouquet from Jean Nadel, who attends Stepney Day Centre.

In London, ZF celebrates its 110th birthday

The Zionist Federation attracted 450 supporters to its 110th anniversary dinner. Retired Colonel Richard Kemp told the audience that it had been a “privilege” to work alongside members of the Israel Defence Forces during his 30-year career. The event was held at the InterContinental Hotel

A Manchester crowd raises £7,000 for FJS

The first fundraiser for the Federation of Jewish Services attracted a capacity audience of 80 to the Manchester city centre offices of Deloitte. The event, sponsored by Tag Heuer and Lloyds TSB, raised £7,000 for FJS, which was created from the merger of the Federation
and Heathlands Village care home

London diners raise £200K for the Anne Frank Trust

The Anne Frank Trust UK attracted 450 supporters to its annual fundraising lunch at the London Hilton. Guest speaker Judge Thomas Beurgenthal, the American judge at the International Court of Justice at The Hague, recounted his childhood experiences of the Holocaust. The lunch raised £200,000 for the work of the trust.

In London, WJR supporters step out to raise £100k

February 11, 2010

More than 350 people attended World Jewish Relief’s fifth annual Kiss Come Dancing event to see six amateur dancers compete for the title of champion. Winner Karen Paul said: “The contest was a dream come true. Knowing the money raised is going towards a fantastic cause has made the experience even more rewarding.” The event, which was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in central London, raised £100,000 for WJR’s children’s projects across Eastern Europe.

A HET lecture honours the courage of survivors

Nazi-hunter Efraim Zuroff and Shadow Schools Secretary Michael Gove paid tribute to the courage of Shoah survivors at the annual Lord Merlyn-Rees memorial lecture. The event, organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, focused on this year’s theme, The Legacy of Hope, acknowledging the importance of continuing the survivors’ legacy.

A big London crowd raises £2.5k for Norwood projects

London diners make £30K for Jewish Blind and Disabled

ChildLine founder Esther Rantzen was the guest speaker at a lunch in aid of Jewish Blind and Disabled. In her address, she spoke to the 200-strong audience about her election campaign and broadcasting career. The event, held at the Hendon Hall Hotel, raised £30,000 for the charity.

Around 200 people attended a gala reception for the opening of the musical Ruth at Kingfield Synagogue in Sheffield. The show, written by community members Stephen Swycher and Leslie Cass, was performed over three nights and attended by around 600 people.
