The Jewish Historical Society of England presents Mr. Raphael Langham who will speak on ‘The Bevin Enigma: What Motivated Ernest Bevin’s Opposition to the Establishment of a Jewish State?’ Raphael Langham is a Vice-President and former Honorary Treasurer of the Society. After national service he became an actuary and retired seventeen years ago when, as a mature undergraduate, he obtained a first class degree in Jewish History from the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies, University College London. He has written two books – “The Jews in Britain: A Chronology”, published by Palgrave in 2007 and “250 Years of Convention and Contention: A History of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, 1760-2010”, published by Vallentine Mitchell in 2010. He has presented four papers to the Society in London and at local groups and has contributed many articles and book reviews to the Newsletter.
