Portraits for Posterity is creating a unique photographic exhibit drawn from survivors of the Holocaust living in Great Britain today. Those alive today are now elderly, but still bear witness to the crime of the twentieth century. By creating images of the few, the exhibit provides a permanent memorial that also commemorates the millions who perished without portraits.
21 portraits are currently on show at the LJCC, including those of several tireless workers for the LJCC’s Holocaust and Anti-Racism department, speaking in schools about their experiences. The exhibition photographer Matt Writtle will be speaking with LJCC Curator Julia Weiner about his experiences working on this project.
Matt, in his 17 years’ experience, has worked for most of the national newspaper groups and the Press Association news agency. Current clients include The Times, Sunday Times and London Evening Standard. His assignments include news photography on the Asian tsumani, Darfur and the death of Princess Diana and numerous photo essays on subjects including Muslims in Britain, AIDS orphans in Siberia, and Child Labour in India.
