Crime | Jews | New York J-Doc (Jewish Documentary Filmmaking Workshop) presents a Double-Bill in its one-day film club programme. Intros. Free refreshments available. First screening (approx. 1h45) @ 530pm. Then 1/2 hour break. Then second screening (approx. 1h45) @ 8pm. A Jewish cop, a Jewish criminal, Jewish victims, Jewish onlookers, lots of New York, Manhattan, Brooklyn, David Mamet, James Gray, Maximillian Schell, Moira Kelly, Joe Mantegna, Tim Roth, William H. Macy... One of Director David Mamet's first films. Very anti-PC. Smooth dialogue with his inimitable disorientating style. Lots of racial slurs. Hurt Jews, confused Jews, underground Jews. Founded and unfounded fears. Typical beguiling plot of appearances and truths. Director James Gray's first film. Very sombre, oppressive, somewhat barren New York. Jewish pride. Pride of the traditional family. Pride of the criminal. Pride of the mafia. Pride of the young man. Murder in the street. Distressing affairs. Jews in New York.
