The Jewish Historical Society of England presents John Cooper who will speak on ‘Nathaniel Mayer Rothschild (1840-1915), the last of the Shtadlanim’. The lecture begins at 8pm (AGM is 7.30pm). John Cooper is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a retired solicitor. His main areas of interest have been Jewish social history and the efforts made to protect Jewish rights in the modern world. He has published extensively on Jewish history and his books include "Eat and Be Satisfied: A Social History of Jewish Food" (1993), "The Child in Jewish History" (1996), "Pride versus Prejudice: Jewish Doctors and Lawyers in England 1890-1990" (2003), and "Raphael Lemkin and the Struggle for the Genocide Convention" (2009).
