The music and poetry of Viktor Ullmann is to be performed as part of the Holocaust Memorial Day programme at The Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St. John’s Wood. Viktor Ullmann was born in 1898. He studied under Schoenberg and developed a unique style. In 1942 he was deported to Terezin where he continued to compose music. Ullmann was murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944. His music will be performed by Maria Garzón, the acclaimed Spanish pianist who has recently completed the recording of Ullmann’s piano sonatas. Ullmann’s intense and powerful poetry will be read by the distinguished actor Sam Dastor.
