Cambridge University Library
A visit of a group from the Spiro Ark to see some of the Genizah manuscripts and listen to a talk about the Collection followed by the most interesting tour around Cambridge.
The Genizah Collection is a window on the medieval world of the Mediterranean area. Its 140,000 manuscripts fragments, mainly in Hebrew and Arabic, shed light on the mundane as well as the religious and cultural activities of that world.
Dr Esther-Miriam Wagner will give a short general talk about the Genizah Collection. She will also talk about her research on the Judaeo-Arabic documents in the Collection and Dr Gabriele Ferrario will talk about his research into texts about alchemy in the Genizah Collection.
A two hour walking tour of the historic city centre of Cambridge will follow our visit to the magnificent Genizah Collection. Our tour guides will take us through the city and will tell us how the town and the University came to be, explain how the University and the Colleges work, view the magnificent architecture and learn about the rich history, amazing stories and brilliant minds associated with Cambridge.
Further details will be announced shortly.
