The BBC has removed from its Election 2010 website a reference to Jews living in "a wealthy pocket of large detached houses".
The offending phrase appeared in a profile of the newly-created Blackley and Broughton constituency in north Manchester.
The words have now been deleted following an angry complaint from Jason Selig, who lives in the constituency.
After the BBC removed the phrase Mr Selig said: "I was shocked that it was so blatant.
"They are saying it's a multi-cultural area, but then they're singling out Jews as the wealthy ones.
"There are, as it happens, plenty of Jewish people in the constituency who are on the poverty line. I'm glad they've taken it down."
