Volunteer of the week: Celia Levine

The retired clothing machinist has volunteered for the Prestwich care home since 1982

Why Heathlands?
My mum was a resident at Heathlands; she was looked after so well that I wanted to give something back so I became a volunteer.

What does your volunteering involve?
I help in the tuck shop, the boutique, at sing-a-longs, concerts, quizzes, shopping and outings. I help to feed those residents who need help, and do whatever I can to help.

What do you most enjoy about being a volunteer?
I enjoy coming into Heathlands because I have made friends with residents and staff; it is a home from home for me.

What is your most memorable volunteering moment?
It is every time we go into the sing-a-longs and concerts and dance with those residents in wheelchairs. It is wonderful to see their faces as they enjoy participating.
