Londoners Suzie and Simon live in Finchley. He works in the public sector, she is studying at Southwark College to qualify as a hospital play specialist. They share a love of music, movies and travelling and Suzie also enjoys knitting. They plan to marry next summer
How we met Simon: Online through a dating site. The first date was meant to be in a lovely Malaysian barbecue restaurant in Covent Garden in May 2007. But I got back from my holidays earlier than anticipated so we ended up getting together two days earlier at the Spaniards Inn, Hampstead. The date was great, although I did unfortunately find out that Suzie is an Arsenal supporter — well no one is perfect. But we chatted into the wee hours.
The proposal We had been dating for over two years, After frantic internet searching on “how to propose to your girlfriend” and a fright at Gatwick, when airport security searched my hand luggage containing the ring — they somehow missed it tucked away in the back — I proposed in Dubrovnik, by the marina. I like a bit of magic [geek!] and so decided to make the ring appear by showing her an empty box and asking her to make a wish. I’ve no idea what the wish was but when she opened it, the ring was there.
The wedding The venue for the ceremony itself is up for grabs as Suzie is Sephardi and I am Ashkenazi. We continue to fight it out. We want a theme for the party but have not yet decided what it will be. We want our wedding to be different and have lots of ideas on how to do this, including hiring an ice cream van to provide desserts. We have a list of honeymoon possibles, including Africa, South America, New Zealand and Asia. Wherever it is will be far far away from Finchley.
