Delegates at a Merseyside Representative Council meeting were told that Rabbi Lionel Cofnas is to train lay personnel to officiate at funerals. The minister of Childwall Hebrew Congregation said that he has had two volunteers willing to officiate. Council president Gordon Globe told the 30 delegates at Harold House that this was the way forward until the city's Orthodox synagogues appoint new ministers. Lubavitch Rabbi Avarami Keivamann can officiate at funerals, as can retiree Rabbi Malcolm Malits.
