Central Synagogue president Leonard Jacobs stands down

Central Synagogue president Leonard Jacobs, who held the post for 25 years, has stood down. After his resignation speech at the shul's annual meeting, Mr Jacobs was given a standing ovation. In his report, chairman Geoffrey Clements, who takes over as president, told the 50-strong gathering that plans to redevelop the Pershore Road site were now on hold due to the credit crunch. Enid Korn was elected as the executive's first woman member.
