Almost 200 people attended the stone-setting service for Derek Baum, the honorary life president of Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation. Local dignitaries, rabbis Mendel and Shmuel Lew, Binyomin Bar, Reverend Gary Newman, family and friends also attended a memorial service and dedication of the shul's garden in honour of Derek Baum, who died in January. In their addresses, Dennis Baum spoke in honour of his father and shul president Alan Gershlick expressed his gratitude to Marcelle Baum who had revamped the garden in memory of her late father-in-law.
