Policemen respond to shul’s call

By Jessica Ware, August 8, 2008

Thirty-seven police officers and staff went to shul last week for a day of training in Jewish cultural awareness.

The New London Synagogue, St John's Wood, hosted the event, which Acting Sergeant Dan Finn, St John's Wood's faith liaison officer, said "went very well. Everyone enjoyed it and a few people said how all police officers should attend this training."

There were workshops on the festivals, Jewish burial and mourning and the Jewish home. The policemen, including deputy chief inspectors, also saw a film on the role of the Community Security Trust.

The New London's Rabbi Jeremy Gordon said participants were "articulate, thoughtful and asked very good questions.

"Anything that we can do to support the police we will."
