Cheshire Reform congregants were impressed by their new Menorah Synagogue on Altrincham Road, which contractors worked day and night to complete in time for Yom Kippur.

Glass panels in the roof allow natural light to flood into the central area where services are held. White walls and halogen spotlights also contribute to what the synagogue hails as "a truly modern place of worship".

Chairman Robert Shields said: "This shows the increasing popularity of Menorah in Manchester and the North-West."

Menorah minister Rabbi Brian Fox added: "Our beautiful new building not only inspires our services but will also be a home for cultural, social and interfaith gatherings for the whole community."

The formal dedication service for the new building will be held at the end of November in the presence of Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor and Reform movement head Rabbi Tony Bayfield.
