Honours for Malcolm Weisman in his new role
A crowd of over 50 well-wishers travelled from as far as Norwich and Aberdeen to the London home of the Chief Rabbi to celebrate Reverend Malcolm Weisman’s becoming emeritus minister for small communities.
Sir Jonathan Sacks paid tribute to Rev Weisman’s years of service since the inception of the Office for Small Communities in the 1960s. “Malcolm Weisman is a deeply respected and loved figure in Anglo Jewry, because he cares for everyone. No community is too small and no distance too great.”
In his response, Rev Weisman noted that he expects to continue to rack up the miles, but is also considering writing his memoirs. The day-to-day leadership of the OSC now passes to its director, Elkan Levy, a past president of the United Synagogue.
For many years the OSC was supported by the Jewish Memorial Council, a role now undertaken by the UJIA.
