Ofsted inspectors have upgraded the Brodetsky Primary School in Leeds from satisfactory to “good with outstanding features”. The Alwoodley primary also received a top score from Pikuach Jewish studies assessors.

Head Simon Camby was praised by the Ofsted team for “the inspiration from which all staff gain strength”.

There was “outstanding” provision for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the 250 pupils and the children displayed good knowledge of healthy eating and keeping fit.

On the debit side, the inspectors found limited opportunities for pupils to practise new writing skills across a range of subjects. But Mr Camby said plans were in hand to rectify this.

Governors’ chair Alan Dunwell felt “both reports provide confirmation of the tremendous progress the school has made in all areas.” The voluntary-aided primary is the only Jewish school in the city.
