On the run
Five Cambridge University students took time away from their their studies last week to run the Jerusalem half-marathon in support of an Israeli charity helping special needs children from any religion.
Running in torrential rain - and even a few snowflakes - Jesus College students David Shaw and Dan Barnett led the group, finishing in under two hours. David Shaw and fellow participants Avital Berger and David Pruwer had volunteered for their beneficiary, Shalva, while on gap years in Israel. They have already raised almost £10,000. Jono Newman completed the group.
Fourteen Bnei Akiva members on gap year schemes completed the full marathon course in aid of charities including Gift, Camp Simcha and Emunah. Also going the full distance was 47-year-old Michael Drucker from Edgware, who shed 88 kilos in a year of dieting.
