Rome arrival lifts Catford
Rev David Gideon Rome will be "coming home" when he joins Catford and Bromley Synagogue as minister next month. For his grandfather Rabbi Judah Rockman served the south London shul for more than 40 years.
Mr Rome, 25, is a qualified chazan and a soloist with the London Cantorial Singers. He has been at Ilford Synagogue for six years, simultaneously taking an honours degree in humanities at UCL.
He was "delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the future of the Catford and Bromley community, which has always had a special place in my heart". Shul chairman Gerald Rose believed the appointment "will secure the future of the Orthodox Jewish community in south-east London".
