A non-Jewish Israel supporter has organised a demonstration in Dublin to show Irish support for the release of Gilad Shalit.
Human rights activist Barry Williams, 24, was joined by around 15 others to protest outside the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin last week to mark the fifth anniversary of the soldier's capture by Hamas.
He said: "It's important to mark the date of the capture. There was a lot of support for the cause with people honking their horns and waving flags."
Two letters were signed and delivered to Hikmat Ajjuri, the Palestinian ambassador to Ireland, and Eamon Gilmore, the Minister for Foreign Affairs in Ireland. A card was also signed and sent to Shalit's family to inform them that his capture was being marked in Ireland's capital city.
