Thirty Muslim and Jewish lawyers, accountants and doctors discussed how to avoid invasive post mortems which are against both religion's law.
Manchester's Muslim Jewish Forum members were addressed by Rochdale coroner Simon Nelson and Muslim speaker Mo Mangeera at the city centre offices of Linder Myers. Mr Nelson told his audience that Manchester's coroners hoped to lead the way in using MRI scanning for non-invasive post mortems, which are permissible under Halacha and Sharia law.
The forum's Mohammed Amin said the Muslim community could avoid burdening grieving families with £1,000 costs for MRI scanning by mirroring the Jewish community which covers the cost of MRI post mortems through synagogue levies.
