New head Gill Ross
The governors' chair of Hackney's Simon Marks Jewish Primary believes new head Gill Ross "can take it to the next level of achievement".
Howard Pallis was delighted by the appointment of Ms Ross, 55, who will take charge in September following the retirement of Norma Blair.
She is currently deputy head of Marlborough Primary in Harrow, which has been designated a knowledge centre for school leadership.
Previous posts include heading a department at the Sobell Sinai School in Kenton and she has taught at a number of chederim.
Ms Ross believes "a good Jewish curriculum engages all children, whatever their background. Our most important task is to instil a love of Judaism and a joy in learning that will persist into adulthood.
"The school's connection with Israel is cemented not just through its staff and student body but also through its day-to-day life. The governing body is seeking to twin with a school in Israel."
Paying tribute to Mrs Blair's contribution, Mr Pallis noted: "The school roll is up, the children are happy and the school is on a sound and steady footing."
