MSP Stewart Maxwell has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, praising organisations and individuals involved in educational activity.

Mr Maxwell, who represents West of Scotland for the SNP, said it was vital "young people learn about the atrocities of the Holocaust to help understand the importance of standing up to senseless hatred and discrimination".

An East Renfrewshire event on January 31 will focus on the experiences of Hershl Sperling, a survivor who made his home in Scotland.
