The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) has promoted Leah Granat to deputy director.
In her new role, Mrs Granat, 50, who has served SCoJeC as public affairs officer since 2003, will continue to liaise with the Scottish authorities on issues of communal concern. She will also expand her work with small communities and Jews living in isolated areas.
Raised in Birmingham and a Reading University graduate, Mrs Granat worked in community education and as a breast-feeding tutor before joining SCoJeC.
"I enjoy working for SCoJeC," she said. "I think it does an extremely important job on behalf of the Jewish community in Scotland."
SCoJeC chair Professor Paul Spicker praised her as "an enormously valuable employee and a tireless worker. This appointment is a recognition of her professionalism and commitment."
