The Jewish Lads' and Girls' Brigade welcomed back two celebrity former members to its senior summer camp in Colchester.
Sophie Abelson - star of BBC soap Doctors and a graduate of the brigade's Southport group - was the subject of a rescue mission in a Torchwood drama activity. Mitch Winehouse - father of Amy and now forging his own musical career - led a karaoke session. Both Mitch and Amy were Southgate brigade members and Mitch has kept in contact through the old comrades' association.
Other features of the camp were a trip back in time to "meet" the founder of the brigade, Colonel E W Goldsmid, and a game of volleyball with a giant inflatable ball. Volleyball and JLGB both started in 1895.
The camp glee club performed for over 800 parents and friends and there was an Israel day honouring 30 Israeli participants and including a performance from the Israel Dance Institute.
