Football exhibits strike a chord with Charlton
Lifting the cup: Sir Bobby Charlton at the Manchester opening
Manchester United and England legend Sir Bobby Charlton opened the Four Four Jew football exhibition at Manchester Jewish Museum on Monday.
Sir Bobby told the 80 guests that it was a trip down memory lane in more ways than one as he had met his wife yards from the museum's Cheetham Hill Road site.
Previously shown at London's Jewish Museum, the Manchester version has a strong local focus. There are displays on Aubrey Cohen, who played for Manchester Maccabi and then Manchester United in the 1940s; Daily Express journalist Henry Rose, who died in the Munich air crash; and long-serving Manchester United director Michael Edelson, who was also at the opening.
The Manchester museum is additionally partnering with the city's National Football Museum in relation to a selection of related memorabilia which will be displayed there this year.
