A mother-of-six who founded Camp Simcha, helping children with serious and life-threatening illness, is one of seven “unsung heroes” honoured by Barnet Council.

Rachely Plancey, 36, from Golders Green started Camp Simcha with husband Meir 16 years ago to support a few local families.

Today it operates nationwide, organising thousands of visits to children, calls to parents and transports to hospital.

Mrs Plancey — who received a framed vellum from the mayor, Councillor Brian Schama — said she shared the honour with all the staff and volunteers at Camp Simcha.

Camp Simcha chief executive Neville Goldschneider said: “Rachely has made such a difference to so many families, supporting them in their time of need. She is truly inspirational.”
