The Jewish Legion marches on in Liverpool

Ajex Military Museum archivist Martin Sugarman addressed a Liverpool Jewish History Society meeting on "The 1918 march of the Jewish Legion". He described the formation of the 38th and 39th Companies from Jewish members of the King's Fusiliers, who fought in Palestine during the First World War.

Brunch boost for Emunah

“Buy less… experience more,” was the message from trend guru and author James Wallman who spoke at a British Emunah brunch organised by volunteer Michelle Plainer.

Each of the 40 guests received a copy of Mr Wallman’s book, ‘Stuffocation – Living More with Less’ at the brunch which took place at the Central Square Minyan in Hampstead Garden Suburb.

Glasgow teens raise £2,500 for Chai

A group of teenage girls attracted 200 people to an event in support of Chai Cancer Care, raising more than £2,500 for the charity.

The Chai 13 committee: Ava Black, Leila Black, Olivia Bishop, Katie Lewis, Hannah Rose and Maya Tenby, held a coffee morning in the Walton Community Centre.

Sinai Synagogue Leeds Judaism through Cooking programme got off to a tempting start with Carey Glass demonstrating how to cook blintzes and director of education Gwynneth Lewis teaching about Shavuot. Participant Petra Mullen said: "It was fabulous to make something new with a lovely collection of people. Carey’s cooking and Gwynneth’s information complemented each other perfectly.

Come dancing at Kinloss

Finchley Synagogue was a sea of blue and white as a record 1,400 guests attended Bnei Akiva's Yom Ha'atzmaut party. Home Secretary Theresa May and Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis were among the crowd for the Kinloss event, which also featured a Yom Hazikaron service extended to incorporate victims of terror.

Songs of praise excite Essex

Redbridge's Yom Ha'atzmaut gala at the local Jewish community centre attracted more than 400 revellers from across the age spectrum. There was arts and crafts and face painting for the young, as well as a youthful element to the entertainment with performances from the Clore Tikva and Wohl Ilford Jewish Primary choirs.

United in Kent

Chatham Memorial Synagogue attracted 60 people from across Kent's Jewish communities to mark Yom Hashoah and Yom Ha’atzmaut. A Yom Hashoah service, conducted by synagogue chairman Jon Weiner, included included prayers for fallen members of Israel’s Defence Forces.
