Kenton Synagogue ladies guild held a luncheon with guest of honour,historian and authoress Helen Fry. Co-chair Lynn Stock welcomed the 100-plus guests to enjoy a delicious meal before introducing Dr Fry whose talk was entitled “Spying on Hitler’s Army”.

Good marks for Langdon

Langdon is celebrating receiving a positive report as a result of a recent local authority inspection of its Hertfordshire care services.

The Jewish charity which supports adults and young people with learning disabilities received a score of 75 per cent - ranking it firmly in the Good category and only a few points away from a score of “excellent”.

Southend sizzler

Some £450 was raised when close to 100 men, wives and kids shmoozed with their friends at the celebrated Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation's Lag b`Omer 110th annual community gourmet barbecue. The guests, who enjoyed the culinary skills of master chef David Baker, joined in with several traditional live songs; and a young professionals kick-ball game.

Wanstead literature lovers clock up golden jubilee

The Wanstead Jewish Literary Society has celebrated its golden jubilee. The society meets monthly on Sunday afternoons attracting an attendance of up to 20 people to listen to talks on art, music, history, books and Jewish topics. Its entrance fee is £2 which includes tea and cakes at the end of the afternoon.

Southend pays its respects

Close to 200 people - including members of the wider community - attended a Yom Hazikaron commemoration at Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation. The shul's Rabbi Binyamin Bar led the service for Israel`s memorial day and the country's fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism.
