Wonderful lecture this year by children's author and campaigner Michael Morpurgo. His experiences of Israel Palestine are particularly worth watching.

Probably, he went to the PA-occupied territories to free the blogger that was imprisoned because of his atheism.

Haven't got time to watch it, but it may also have been to do with the beating and raping of dissenters or collaborators in Hamas prisons, or their use of children to fight their battles for them.

Fortunately, the BBC does not allow people to watch this from outside UK.

Jose: I wonder if he was highlighting the plight of abused children like this:

Maybe Matt, but I think the sooner they brainwash children the better for them:

That must be something such a children lover must hate.

I'm a bit disappointed, Matt: the author doesn't make any reference to these brainwashed children...

Besides he is said to have been on both sides, but he mentions only one... Guess living under 'Palestinian' rockets for 10 years is good for children.

I too am disappointed that no reference was made to the brainwashing by Hamas and others.

Or this
kids, eh
or this
kids with guns
It is an absolute disgrace that children are being used in this way by one-stater fundamentalists.

I hope everyone agrees that it's an absolute disgrace that kids are being used in this manner to further hateful and destructive policies.

Fuck off, Millis. They are learning to defend themselves against genocidal Nazi mass-murderers.

How many 'Palestinians' were killed by Israeli settlers and how many Israelis were killed by 'Palestinian' terrorists, Milligramsam?
Don't you think these numbers would give a good view of the magnitude of the brainwashing on each side?

Michael Morpurgo gave an impassioned plea for the children who find themselves in the most horrendous situations. His most touching story was of the first joint Arab/Jew school.

This represents at least a glimmer of hope, sadly lost on the likes of the dynamic duo jose & yoni, better known as dumb and dumber.

Zair, while I agree with your first paragraph regarding Michael Morpurgo, there is absolutely no need for your second paragraph.

Millis, you've nailed your colours to the Israel bashing mast anyway - our sensitivities and distinctions will mean nothing when they come for the Jews again.

Zair, children suffer terribly in war. The best est way of avoiding this is to refrain from sttarting hostilities in the first place - so the next time Hamas initiates conflict, I'm sure you'll condemn it.

Posner, I am sure if you ask really nicely, they will make an exception for South Africa.

Every time I read a comment by Zair, I feel that humanity as a whole has not progressed since the palaeolithic era. For someone quite as thick and ignorant as him to call other posters - those with vastly superior knowledge of Israel, too, a subject on which he spouts endless nonsense - 'dumb and dumber', is the height of stupidity.

And while the rebuke of same by Millis is welcome, it's a tad hypocritical to say the least when Millis deludes himself that comparing a Jewish poster to a Nazi song is 'witty', rather than the offensive filth it really is.

Posner,

What is a Posner, Myopic? Are you a Posner too?

I am sure if you ask really nicely, they will make an exception for South Africa.

And how would that help for Israel and France, Myopic?

What a stupid way to respond to the truth of Israeli racism.
I saw Michael Morpurgo on BBC newsnight earlier in the week with the children in the wonderful school in Israel where the Palestinian and Jewish Israeli kids all get lessons together. What a good idea. He then showed the horrors of what israel has done to the children in gaza. He is a good man.

Simon, there really is no need to repeat profanities to make the point you were trying to make. Apart from that Israeli racism isn't much different from other nations' racism. In fact, thankfully, there are organisations in Israel and in the uk, such as the UK Taskforce, which are trying to fight this racism which they see as deleterious to Israel's future and anti-Jewish to boot.

simoneq - what a silly and ill-informed statement - if you want racism, look at the pathological and endemic anti-Semitism which thrives in Arab societies. 97% of Egyptians are anti-Semites, according to the Pew Research Centre - it is hard to get 97% of people to agree on anything - except, it seems, on hating Jews.

The only racist round these parts - is you.

simoneq - did you see the horrors inflicted by the RAF on German children? Tens of thousands burnt to death in deliberate targeting of civilians?

Poor Nazi Germany - evil Britain.

In fact, most racists I know in Israel come from Arabic countries... Could be that they have a grudge against them, simoneq! Maybe their family had all their property stolen and they were made apatride refugees at gunpoint, like nearly one million of them, part of whom settled in Israel?
I'll never approve racism and I make it very clear to these people when they dare speak to me. But Arab antisemitism is not only an epiphenomenon of war. It is a pervasive attitude in Arab society. More than 90% of the Middle East dictatorships has antisemitic prejudices, something that has no equivalent on Earth.
So, those like me who combat racism should find a lot more work to do in Arab countries. As usual, the biggest problems should be solved first. Those who speak of Israeli racism without caring for Arab antisemitism are just trying to hide their own antisemitism.
