This does sound like an interesting discussion. There's one noteworthy fact to keep in mind:
In 1980, Jimmy Carter got 45% of the Jewish vote, Ronald Reagan 39%, and minor party candidate John Anderson 14%. That should give you some idea how ineffectual a DEM has to be for the majority of the US Jewish vote to be for a Republican.
