Universities are now hotbeds of Islamic extremism (Daily Express)

By Stephen Pollard, December 30, 2009

I have a piece on today's Daily Express about Islamist extremism on campus. You can read it here.

Well, yes...

Overheard:

"My mate's been sacked by the Sally Army Soup Kitchen. All he did was say: 'Hurry up, hurry up. Some of us have got homes to go to.'"

Jewish Airfix

By Stephen Pollard, December 24, 2009

This year's Limmud has a session on Jewish Airfix model building.

Presumably the Jewish element is getting a man in to do it.

The brave, principled Peter Tatchell

By Stephen Pollard, December 22, 2009

Rod Liddle has an eloquent tribute to Peter Tatchell here.

As he puts it:

there is not a more brave, principled or decent man in the country.

Musical illiteracy

By Stephen Pollard, December 21, 2009

Michael White asks an interesting question:

Why are the students on University Challenge so muscially illiterate?

Ghost town

By Stephen Pollard, December 21, 2009

We were in Birmingham this weekend, for a wedding.

I was rather dreading our arrival there on Saturday: we were staying in the middle of town, and in the middle of the middle - at the Malmaison in the Malibox. Last Saturday before Christmas, it had to be hell. Would we even get in to the car park?

Identity minister loses her own

By Stephen Pollard, December 17, 2009

This is glorious. You know how all those state-fetishists who are forever telling us how much more conveinent life would be if we carried an ID card, to make more palatable their wish for us all to conform to their rules...

Identity Minister Meg Hillier was left red-faced in Liverpool as she
arrived at a photocall to promote identity cards - but left her own at
home.

Bar Mitzvah crisis

By Stephen Pollard, December 17, 2009

So they're abolishing cheques in 2018.

That's why we need a Bar Mitzvah Association. It would lobby now to save the foundation of the Bar Mitzvah - the cheque. It would mount campaigns across the airwaves. It would take the Payments Council to judicial review for its decision. It would urge the Prime Minister to act.

But in its absence, I guess from 2018 it'll be cards stuffed with tenners, rather than a neat cheque.

Welcome, Tzipi

By Stephen Pollard, December 16, 2009

It's being widely reported that Gordon Brown phoned Tzipi Livni this morning to tell her that she was "most welcome" in the UK.

Presumably he also told her that HMG would also offer her accomodation - at Holloway prison.

Hoffman takes on the bigots

By Stephen Pollard, December 15, 2009

In the battle to put Israel's case and to fight against bigotry, there are few more committed people than Jonathan Hoffman, Vice President of the Zionist Federation.

He can sometimes be a bit too committed for some, but no one can deny his energy, efforts and fearlessness.

His post here at Harry's Place on the UCU's boycott campaign is a must read - and this video of a Q&A session in which he asked a question, is a must watch (from 4'50'').

BA's idiot cabin crew

By Stephen Pollard, December 14, 2009

You do have to wonder how stupid BA cabin crew are, having voted to strike over Xmas.

Actually, you don't. Because we know how stupid they are: incredibly so.

Their airline is collapsing around them, losing a fortune. And they have decided to make things worse - a lot worse. Because if they strike, they may tip the company over the edge and make it unrescuable.

Bernie, meet Jonathan

By Stephen Pollard, December 14, 2009

Just heard a titbit from a very reliable source. It seems that Jonathan Pollard (no relation!) has a regular lunch companion at the Butner, North Carolina correctional facility: one Bernard Madoff.

And according to my source, Mr Pollard is dismissive of Mr Madoff, who apparently shows no remorse whatsoever.

Prison reform

By Stephen Pollard, December 8, 2009

Every element of this sentence, in a story in the Mail about Lisa Healey, who was 15 when she tortured and killed a
pensioner and is now about to be released with a secret identity, makes you gulp with disbelief (actually it's all too believable):
