In yesterday's El Diario/La Prensa, there is a story by Silvina Sterin Pensil about a rabbi in Queens. He has been in the US 40 years now, his name is David Algaze. He says people sometime stare when they see him in a kippa and then hear him speaking Spanish. His shul, located at 108-11 69th Street, is in the leafy neighbourhood of Forest Hills. The offspring of an Egyptian mother and a Turkish father, he grew up in El Once, the Jewish neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. When he was 16, the famous American rabbi Marshall T. Meyer convinced him to become a rabbi. He came to NY to study at the Jewish Theological Seminary and has stayed on.
A phone number is given for those wishing to contact him - 718-261-5500.
