One man's reasoned piece is another man's heap of rubbish.

I accepted Matthew's invitation to read Howard Jacobson's piece " line by line " . That was a mistake. It reads much better " in the whole " as an agenda driven piece of poetry.Line by line it is simply awful. Howard Jacobson is a fine one to call anyone disingeneous.

This is the same Howard Jacobson that told me that while being critical of Israel didn't mean that I am antisemitic, it just so happens that I am.

As for the argument that being seen to be partisan inhibits one's ability to help bring a solution...The west, led by the United States of AIPAC, screwed that decades ago.

Below is part of a statement by the Liberal Democrats Friends of Palestine, presumably in response to the statement by the Liberal Democrats Friends of The Occupation.

John McHugo, chair of Lib Dem Friends of Palestine, says, “This is a witchhunt based on trial by blog. Jenny’s motivation in speaking up for the rights of the oppressed is anger at injustice when others, who have the duty to speak out, pass by silently on the other side of the street. It is also an attempt to make Jenny the story, and to detract attention from the evils of Israel’s occupation.”

Note (from the LDFP website): “The Liberal Democrat Friends of Palestine exist to fight for the rights of the Palestinian People through the medium of the Liberal Democrat Party. We currently support the “two state solution” for an independent and viable Palestinian state, and security for both parties. We therefore call on Israel to renounce all claims to occupied land and to halt all illegal settlement building. If Israel is unwilling to do this, there will come a point at which “the one state solution”, under which Israel will need to offer all Palestinians citizenship in a single, secular State, will become the only way forward. This may be very soon.”

"If Israel is unwilling to do this, there will come a point at which “the one state solution”, under which Israel will need to offer all Palestinians citizenship in a single, secular State, will become the only way forward. This may be very soon"

- He didn't even make that up himself.
Interesting the Liberal Democrat Friends of Palestinian Intransigence and Terrorism call on Israel to renounce all claims to occupied land but do not call on the Palestinians to renounce all claims to the "right of return" which makes their own claim of supporting a two state solution not very convincing.

"Unitary democratic state" - democratic by whose definition? You mean like those beacons of democracies Tunisia, Egypt Syria or perhaps Hamas?
