He stands next to someone who authored a book, called "The Other Side: The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism." In this book, as reported by Israeli editor Arie Stav in the 1995 issue of the Israeli journal Nativ, Abu Mazen refutes the Nazi Holocaust as "The Zionist fantasy, the fantastic lie that six million Jews were killed." Additionally, Abu Mazen writes that he believes that there were only about 890,000 Jewish victims in Nazi Germany and that these victims were actually the victims of a Zionist-Nazi plot. This is also a man who has just extolled the virtues of released terrorists responsible for the murder and maiming of Jews and in particular a female terrorist (whose name I refuse to repeat) who was released along with the first tranche of terrorist thugs exchanged for Gilad Shallit who lured a young teenager through the internet to his murder by her accomplices. And Clegg has the chutzpa to call the building of Jewish homes on Jewish land "vandalism". He should know that Jews will still be freely living in Ma'ale Adumim, Efrat, Elkana, Elon Moreh etc long after his consignment to a miniscule footnote in British political history. |

Clegg had the opportunity to show he was fair minded - if he had to sound off at Israel well we are hard skinned enough and we have heard it all from him before. But he had the chance to put Mr Abbas in his place too and could have told him if he genuinely wanted peace he had better stop making demands which he knows Israel will not accept or otherwise condemn his people to another 60 odd years of fruitless negotiations. The question is do the Palestinians under Fatah really want peace the answer is that they obviously do not - they could have had it eleven years ago if not earlier. They want a one Arab state solution with no Jews - they are not going to get it. |

Whatever you feel about him he spoke as a senior government minister on behalf of the government. What he said is well in line with what other ministers have recently said. It merely reflects the gradual but accelerating hardening of attitudes towards Israel in the democratic world. Israel cannot afford this. |
17 January, 2012 - 17:46 Rate this: 0 points | Clegg never was the issue. The issue is that if the UK wants to retain its position as a facilitator in the peace process (especially as historically it bears much of the blame for the past sixty odd years having abrogated its respopnsibilities by running away in 1948) it can't take sides as it is increasingly doing bashing Israel for perceived wrongs and not pointing out that the lack of progress cannot be laid solely at Israel's door if at all will make it an irrelevance and Messrs Cameron Clegg Hague et al with it - if it is not already. In most Israelis' view it's what America wants that counts and if Obama wants to go down in history as the US President who solved the Middle East crisis he is going to have to do a lot better and work with Israel and not against it. We have a democratically government he might not like it but that is who he has to work with. |
18 January, 2012 - 11:45 Rate this: 0 points | Clegg is a disgrace. He is advocating a racist position - that Jews should only be allowed to live in particular places. I wonder if he thinks the same about the Arabs. |
