Alistair Burt:

There are some of my Parliamentary colleagues who will stand up condemn Israel at any opportunity. But these are not the ones you need to worry about. The ones you need to worry about are the ones in the mainstream, the centre ground. The ones who used to stand up and support Israel, but now stay silent. Or the ones who used to be silent, but are now critical.

Because opinion is shifting - among my colleagues in Parliament, among the British public, and more widely. It's not yet catastrophic, and it's not quick. But it is happening, and you should care, just as I care as someone who has for decades counted himself as an ardent friend of Israel.

@Alistair Burt:

Even if it were true that 'opinion is shifting' (and I challenge you to prove this, rather than that all the old hatreds that never went away are coming out), Israel does what is necessary to protect its citizens from Jihadi terrorists, not what is necessary to curry favour among Hampstead's chatterati ....

Of course opinion is shifting and fast.Compare now with 1967 when there was an almost universal " plucky little Israel" attitude.

It has changed slowly generally with regular boosts such as the Lebanon wars, the Sabra massacre, Cast Lead.

There is an accelerating consciousness of the sheer brutality and illegality of the occupation,the shamelessness of the perpetual theft of land and resources and the flood of anti democratic and racist legislation.

You are right about one thing though. People haven't changed.

Israel has.

The writing is on the wall. Israelis better wake up soon.

Ah yes of course Mr/Ms Anony-Mouse

.... Israel's big mistake was to win the 1967 War ... how much better it would have been for you and your ilk if she had been annihilated ...

Better alive and vilified by antisemites than dead with a Memorial Day once a year ...

Prove your groundless generalisations .. I submit they are just a figment of your fevered hate-filled consciousness ...
