This is only tangentially relevant, but in the US there was a kiddie show host named Soupy Sales whose trademark was getting hit in the face with a custard pie. Frank Sinatra was a fan and twice appeared as a guest, and was hit in the face with a pie.

After being hit in the face, he said, "It tastes like rum. It must be Dean Martin".

The show was also broadcast in New Zealand, but never in the UK.
