Impact of prolonged Israeli occupation on Palestinian children

Since 2000 1,335 Palestinian children (not adults - just children) have been killed as a result of the presence of the Israeli military and settlers in the occupied Palestinian territory.
That means 10 children per month or over two deaths per week.
226 children are currently in Israeli detention, including 45 who are between 12 and 15 years old.
There has been an almost 45 per cent increase in demolitions in 2010, during which 396 Palestinian structures were demolished in East Jerusalem and other areas under full Israeli control in the West Bank, as compared to 275 in 2009. As a result, 561 people have been displaced, including 280 children, and the livelihoods of over 3,000 people have been affected.

6 May, 2011 - 09:00 Rate this: 0 points | The children dying are as a result of their being placed in harm's way when gun battles are being fought. Where are the shelters in Gaza - don't bother looking there are none. |
6 May, 2011 - 09:44 Rate this: 0 points | Lukas, an antisemite who has voiced support for the antisemitic genocidal terror group Hamas, has an opinion. The JC gives him a platform to air his racism. Likas, what is the source for your figures? I also would like to know about your study into the effects on Israeli children of Palestinian terrorism, which has deliberately targeted them. Lukas, we get nowhere until you acknowledfge that the conflict cannot simply be reduced to casualty figures. In the Second World War, The Germans suffered 25 civilian deaths for every one British civilian death. This, of course, must outrage you, and you would immediately lay the blame on Britain, right? It is simply the result of lazy thinking and moral relativism. Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups hide behind their civilian populations, whilst offering them no protection (Hamas has built precisely zero shelters for its civilians, whilst firing rockets from population centres, against population centres, constituting a double war crime), whilst Israel builds shelters for her civilians, and her army does not fight from behind them. Surprise surprise, the Palestinians have more civilian casualties. The allegation ,which you make here, that Israel enjoys killing children, is a blood libel against the Jewish people, and that you air your racism so shamelessly is despicable, as is the JC's tolerance for such racism. |

Please forward on your source so i can check the credibility myself. I look forward to hearing from you |
6 May, 2011 - 12:06 Rate this: 0 points | It is not racist or pro Hamas to quote these figures - which can be found on the B'tslem website. The usual myth that Hamas hides behind the population is simply untrue. For a start Gaza is an urban prison - or ghetto if you prefer - that is surrounded / The people are walled in so they can't actually get out. They are shot at if they approach the walls or venture too far out to sea. It is the Israeli occupation army that shoots at them. Comparing the people in Gaza and the West bank to the German situation in WW2 is unfair. Germany was an industrial nation with the ability to defend itself. The Palestinians are occupied, unarmed (except for light arms) and are barraged by missiles from the air, land and sea. And they are walled up. If you looked at the citations from B'tslem, the UN and many others you would see that, rather than being child 'terrorists' engaged in vile attacks on Israelis, many children die in their homes, whilst playing or as a result of lethal raids by the occupying army. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:00 Rate this: 0 points | For some people, it's always 1938 and nuclear-armed Israel is Czechoslovakia. Some people have to big up paper tigers in the hope that they will scare enough people into following them. Go figure. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:46 Rate this: 0 points | Suzanna, it IS racist to say that Israel deliberately kills children. It IS racist to support Hamas, as Lukas does. And it IS racist to say attacks on Jews in the UK are the same as Israelis defending themselves against Palestinian terror groups, which is what you do. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:47 Rate this: 0 points | millis, you can keep saying that when they come for the Jews. Maybe you find it comforting living in a fool's paradise. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:49 Rate this: 0 points | Suzanna, Gaza is not occupied. And Hamas does make use of human shields, and provides no help to its civilians. They have not built a single shelter since coming to power, and your defence of Hamas, a racist, antisemitic terror organization, on a Jewish website, is beyond belief. You are one sick individual. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:49 Rate this: 0 points | Suzanna, the UN is antisemitic, so don't try to impress me with quoting them. What a joke. |
6 May, 2011 - 13:51 Rate this: 0 points | Also , your analysis is completely wrong. Lukas does the numbers game. I gave you the numbers game with Nazi Germany. You say this is false because Germany is industrialized. How does that have anything at all to do with the point that Lukas is trying to make i.e. the Palestinians are victims bacsue they have more casualties? |
6 May, 2011 - 14:01 Rate this: 0 points | War is war, and it will always be hell and not social work. I don't care who is doing the fighting. |
6 May, 2011 - 14:20 Rate this: 0 points | Whether I (or any one else is a racist) is just a diversion by the war crime apologists. It’s a tired tactic. The figures are there for all to see. As are the facts. The Palestinians aren't 'victims' because they have more casualties they are victims because they are occupied, they are imprisoned in huge ghettoes / prisons and are shot at from the air, land and sea. How can you say Gaza isn't occupied when the entire area is surrounded, entry and exits are controlled by an occupying army, protesters and inhabitants alike are killed with impunity. (39 so far this year) How can you say that the West Bank isn't occupied when Israel withholds tax revenue which belongs to the PA -from the PA because the PA dared to seek conciliation with their fellow citizens in Gaza? The occupying Israeli army controls every aspect of a Palestinian's life. Give the Palestinians their own freedom. |
6 May, 2011 - 14:25 Rate this: 0 points | 'And it IS racist to say attacks on Jews in the UK are the same as Israelis defending themselves against Palestinian terror groups, which is what you do'. Can you explain to me how demolishing a Bedouin or Palestinian home is defence against a Palestinian 'terror group'? How is expelling families from their homes in East Jerusalem protecting Israel from Palestinian 'terror groups'? How is the shooting of civilians on a ship in international waters protection against Palestinian 'terror groups'? How do illegal settlements and apartheid roads protect Israel from Palestinian 'terror groups'? |
9 May, 2011 - 12:44 Rate this: 0 points | The citing of the effects on children in any conflict is truly a lame argument. Children aren't isolated, they suffer along with the parents. It doesn't illuminate us on the whole story. In WWII, the Allies bombed Dresden where the Nazis had munitions factories. Children suffered there too. I'm waiting for the BBC to create a mystery/drama drawing a moral equivalence between the Allied powers the Axis. |

Yes Lukas just think how much different things would have been had the Arabs accepted partition in 1947 or not sought to destroy israel in 1948, 1967 and 1973. Or not started an Intifada in 2000 after having been offered 98% of what they had asked for. But as usual the Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity and then blame the Jews when it all goes wrong. Sorry but my thoughts are with the kids of Sderot who will be traumatised for life because the Palestinians hate our kids more than they love their own. Thy would rather their childen be martyrs than grow up and live a fulfilling life that's why they use them as human shields and put their arms bunkers under schools and hospitals. But carrying on projecing your western values on Islamist terrorists whose only aim is the destruction of Israel.
