Last night (17 October) Amnesty International in London had a meeting: “Demolitions & Discrimination against Palestinian Citizens of Israel: The case of Al-Araqib”

http://www.amnesty.org.uk/events_details.asp?ID=1967

The title of the meeting tells you that Israel was vilified. If you still have doubts, look at the speaker lineup: Dr. Awad Abu Freih - Al ‘Araqib Popular Committee & Negev Co- existence Forum; Dr Mansour Nsasra - Politics Department, Exeter University;
Miri Weingarten - EU Advocacy Coordinator for Israel/OPT - Israeli Human Rights Consortium.

Exeter University is a centre for vilification of Israel. Ilan Pappé is there. Weingarten is a member of Physicians for Human Rights.

Amnesty has a long history of holding Israel-hate meetings. If you look on my blog and Richard Millett’s blog you will find these meetings documented:

Scandalously Amnesty never called for Gilad Shalit – whose release we celebrate today – to be freed:

I pre-registered for last night’s meeting in order to make the following points in the Q+A:

- The Beduin inhabitants of Al-Araqib are squatters – much like some of the gypsies at Dale Farm in the UK. The village is on land that has been government–owned since Ottoman times. This status was adopted under the British Mandate and has been taken into Israeli law.

- The demolitions of houses were according to the law. The buildings were erected only recently by the Abu Madyam and Abu Jaber families. The Beduin have been unable to substantiate their claim of land ownership with any documentation. The Supreme Court ruled that the inhabitants acted in bad faith, unable to provide evidence for their ownership claims.

- On occasion Beduin have tried to expel other Beduin

- The families who claim Al-Araqib also own villas and plots in Rahab. Abdullah Abu Madyam is a merchant who is said to be using the illegal structures to store his merchandise. There are photos of him arriving in a luxury car. The Al-Uqbi family – said to be one of the dispossessed families – has been given free land by the government in Hura.

- The Goldberg Report has made comprehensive recommendations for the betterment of the lives of the 191,000
Beduins in the Negev:

I wanted to make these points in the Q+A

But I could not
Because I was refused entry to the meeting. Yet again Amnesty has proved that “Human Rights” do not extend to the right of Free Speech to defend Israel at its hate sessions …..

Addendum:

This travelling circus demonising Israel is touring the UK under the PSC's auspices. So far it has been to Oxford, St Albans, Bedford, Luton, Leamington, Gloucester. Tonight it's in Canterbury and tomorrow Bristol. Go and put the points I wanted to put - let's hope you're not banned.

Richard Millett has blogged about this incident. As he says:

Benedict is still working at Amnesty, while I cannot cover his ability to use Amnesty’s respected reputation to continuously attack Israel in a host of very unsavoury ways.

("Benedict" refers to Kristyan Benedict, Campaigns Direcor of Amnesty, who physically threatened Millett after an Amnesty meeting. He does indeed "abuse Amnesty’s respected reputation to continuously attack Israel in a host of very unsavoury ways").

Jonathan, didn't you know that:
"Amnesty International Protects Hamas Rights Internationally".
So why would they want to hear your questions? They might have to question the replacement theory they adhere to!

Amnesty International had nothing to do with Gilad Shallit's release in fact throughout his 5 year incarceration as an NGO specifically founded to protect prisoners Amnesty International did nothing vis-a-vis Gilad Shallit either to secure his release or provide information to his family even with all their Arab connections. Amnesty International is therefore not fit for purpose and people should think twice before supporting it financially or at all.

Do try to not be so perfectly ridiculous. If the most sophisticated intelligence operation in the world couldn't find Galid, or secure his release or provide information to his family what chance did AI have.

This campaign against AI, which has an incomparable record when it comes to documenting human rights abuses, by a couple of ineffectual goons, is really quite pathetic.

AND JUST TO GIVE THE LIE TO THE LIE

And there is loads more where that came from

Should I ask for my money back ?

Real Phony trying to defend the indefensible. Anybody can put up a blog site calling for someone to be freed and as AI did then do sweet nothing about it. They have contacts Israel does not possess they did not use them or offer to use them. They did nothing and yet they say "Our vision is for every person to enjoy all the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights standards" but obviously not if you are Jewish and Israeli.
As someone posted on their website:
"It is sad that you only remember Shalit once Israeli PM denies extra priviledges (which are above and beyond IHL requirements) from Palestinian terrorists. It encourages countries to think you will only act for their citizens if they apply some pressure to the prisoners or in other words reciprocity. Though this intiative is welcomed, it is tarnished by its timing, You should have acted as fiercley for Shalit from day one as you do for Palestinian terrorists…" enough said!
And now AI's response to the freeing of Gilad Shallit is this priceless heading "Israel-Hamas prisoner swap casts harsh light on detention practices of all sides" how's that for an example of crass immoral equivalency. Read the article it is nothing but a bash Israel fiction. Gilad Shallit hardly merits a mention in their eagerness to find something anything with which to damn Israel. How many other terrorists incarcerated around the world besides those convicted for murder incarcerated in Israeli prisons have access to the internet and are able to pursue college degrees. Please do send all your money to Amnesty International bankrupt yourself in the process for all I care.
